Who We Are
Your Voice Matters
Dwona Initiative is a nonprofit organisation based in Kampala, Uganda that is dedicated to amplifying girls and women’s voices through removing barriers to education, supporting entrepreneurship and creating safe places in an effort to eradicate gender-based violence, gender inequality and poverty.
For girls and women to be empowered, their voice needs to be fully heard and embraced in at levels of society. However, these voices are silenced by many factors like; the epidemic levels of gender-based violence to biased laws and norms that prevent them from attaining or completing education, owning property, working, and making decisions about their own lives. We believe that it is a critical part of empowerment that enables girls and women to share their perspectives on various issues, contribute and participate ably in the socio-economic development of their communities.
WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO
What makes us different?
The work Dwona Initiative does rotates around some of The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, which provide a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. The Sustainable Development Goals recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth.
Dwona Initiative recognizes that educating women and girls (Goal 4) and also Gender Equality (Goal 5) are vital for the world to achieve higher levels of economic growth and development and as such the work we do mainly is geared towards achieving Goal 4 and Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals
