Become A Volunteer
“If our hopes of building a better and safer world are to become more than wishful thinking, we will need the engagement of volunteers more than ever.” — Kofi Annan
Dwona Initiative is a nonprofit organisation based in Kampala, Uganda that is dedicated to amplifying girls and women’s voices through removing barriers to education, supporting entrepreneurship and creating safe places in an effort to eradicate gender-based violence, gender inequality and poverty.
Dwona Initiative recognizes that educating women and girls is vital for the world to achieve higher levels of economic growth and development. However, most girls and women are subjected to different forms of gender-based violence like; period stigma and poverty, sexual and physical abuse, early child marriages and pregnancies, denial to their educational right due to cultural practices like FGM, among others which affect their school enrollment, retention and completion, further widening the educational inequality gap between girls and boys.
“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they have the heart.” – Elizabeth Andrew
